First, Confirm the Result
Home pregnancy tests can be highly accurate when used correctly, but following up with a medical-grade test can give you a confirmed result before you start to consider your next steps.
At True Care, a nurse will conduct a thorough review of your medical history. Then, she’ll perform the pregnancy test and provide the result.
If it’s positive, your next questions may be, “How far along am I?” and “Is everything where it should be?” Though a pregnancy test can verify an at-home result, it can’t answer either of these questions.
There’s More to Know Than “Positive”
True Care also offers limited OB ultrasounds to eligible clients.
An ultrasound can provide information such as an estimate of gestational age and the pregnancy’s location. Confirming the location can help identify a possible ectopic pregnancy, which develops outside the uterus and can become a medical emergency without immediate treatment.
How far along you are is also relevant when researching your pregnancy options. For example, the drug mifepristone, which is part of the abortion pill regimen, is FDA-approved only through 10 weeks of gestation. Taking the drug after this timeframe isn’t recommended, because it can pose additional risks to your health.
This Is Also a Good Time to Think About STI/STD Testing
Pregnancy may be the reason you made the appointment, but your sexual health matters too.
